When authors choose a journal to submit their manuscripts to, they often rely on journal metrics to assess the quality and impact of a particular journal. However, relying on metrics alone may not provide a complete picture of the journal's standing. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of a journal's performance and reputation, it is important to consider a variety of metrics and other factors.
Journal of Social & Health Sciences (JSHS) recognizes the importance of providing authors with comprehensive and up-to-date metrics. JSHS updates its relevant metrics annually at the end of January. These metrics include usage, reach, citation metrics, speed, acceptance rate, annual article views, and annual article downloads. By considering a range of metrics and other factors, authors can gain a more nuanced understanding of the journal's impact and standing in their field.
Citation Metric
JSHS obtains its CiteScore data from Scopus®, which calculates the average number of citations received per document published by a journal over the last three calendar years. This calculation is based on the number of citations received in a given year for articles published in the previous three calendar years, divided by the total number of articles published in the same three-year period.
Speed
JSHS utilizes several speed metrics to indicate the journal's performance in terms of the time taken during different stages of the publishing process. We calculate median values for these metrics based on the previous calendar year, including the time from submission of the manuscript to the first decision, the time taken by reviewers for the peer review process, the time from submission of the manuscript to acceptance, and the time from acceptance to online publication.
Acceptance Rate
The acceptance rate is the number of manuscripts accepted for publication in the JSHS as a percentage of all manuscripts disposed of after the final decision over the last calendar year.
Annual Article Views
Annual Article Views is a quantitative metric that reflects the total number of times readers have accessed all articles published within a journal within a specific year. It provides valuable insight into a journal's popularity and reaches in a given year and can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of dissemination and promotion strategies. Annual Article Views can also compare the relative popularity and influence of different journals within the same field and indicate a journal's impact on the research community.
Annual Article Downloads
Annual Article Downloads is a quantitative metric that reflects the number of times readers have downloaded all articles published within a journal in a specific year. It provides insight into a journal's impact on the research community and can be used to evaluate the relative influence of different journals within the same field. Annual Article Downloads can also indicate the significance of research findings and identify trends in research interests and preferences within a particular field. Additionally, it can indicate the extent to which a journal's content is disseminated and utilized by the research community.
Readership Map
A readership map is a visualization tool that provides information about the global reach and impact of a journal's published articles. It represents the geographic locations of readers who have accessed the articles and provides insights into the extent of readership in different regions of the world. This information can help understand the journal's audience and the potential impact of its articles on a global scale.
Authorship Map
An authorship map is a visualization tool that offers valuable insights into the diversity and distribution of authors who have contributed to a journal's published articles. By representing the geographic locations of authors, it provides a clear understanding of the extent of authorship in different regions of the world. This information is crucial in assessing the global reach and impact of the journal's published articles and gaining a deeper understanding of the diversity of authorship contributing to the journal.
